Conditions for British Airways Pilot Jobs
last update
Roster Avarage of 850-900hrs blocktime per year, bunktime included. LHR now has new rostering system as of Jan ‘19. Seniority driven preference based system. Like all seniority driven airlines, seniority is key. Senior pilots can effectively write their own rosters (destinations and days off), junior pilots have less ability but can still achieve some of what they want (it’s a balance, if you’re junior and want to go to LAX on a Monday you might not get it. However, if you don’t mind going on a Saturday you’re more likely to get it) For short haul, some pilots want long tours due to commuting, some want day trips. Junior short haul pilots are more likely to get a better roster using the new system because different pilots want different things and there is a lot of work to go around. LHR 6 Golden days a year (guaranteed days off) First come first served- no seniority factor for golden days).

British Airways Pilot Jobs Entry Requirements (including preferred pilot schools)
last update
Captain
Internal upgrade only. Long Haul Commands 19 years approx for all fleets this year, Short Haul 4-5 years (a handful of recent cases of < 2 years at LGW but not many). Varies year on year and so never bargain on early command; 5-7 years for SH would be a reasonable long-term guess. 23/Dec/19

FO
Varying requirements for short haul as fATPLs straight out of their ME CPL/IR, and experienced left/right hand seat applicants, can be offered short haul roles. Long haul requires Boeing or Airbus time at a minimum of 1500hrs on one or more types. For FOs, joining with an ATPL is not required, but the conversion to an ATPL must be completed alongside a BA type rating. This is due to operating in both seats during the cruise. Your offer of short/long haul is decided by your performance across all stages, but at stage three (sim phase) of the interview process, applicants receive a 'long haul tick' if the assessor believes their current competencies match the long haul environment. If you're seeking a long haul role, you do not have to have 1500hrs on a Boeing/Airbus at stage three, but you will have to have proof of your hours (stamped by your previous employers) by your start date with BA. This means you can apply with ~1000hrs on an Airbus or Boeing and wait in the hold pool until you achieve 1500hrs if you wish. 29/Apr/20
