Process |

Two day process. FIRST DAY - numerical and verbal reasoning tests. Computer based co-ordination test (lasts about 2.5 hours). Interview with one HR person and a pilot. Non-technical questions. Many "give examples of a time when you...." questions. Group exercise. You are given sim info (speeds, check list). You will get a phone call that evening to tell you if you have passed. If yes, you will be invited back for the second day, usually the next day. SECOND DAY - sim check and more computer based co-ordination tests, which are the same as day before. Sim check - fly PF and PNF. Questions when PNF. Questions throughout on airmanship, eg. what groundspeed are we doing, how far from X do we need to start descent, etc. Scenario involved short flight A to B with a reason for a diversion to C (medical emergency, weather, airport closed, etc.). or possibly to D! All raw data flying on BAC 747-400 with basic AP usable above TL. Tracking of VORs. Autopilot allowed in cruise. Approaches could be ILS, VOR, NDB or any combination. Expect late changes to runway or approach. Allegedly, landing not assessed. You will be given 5 minutes at start, non-assessed to do some basic handling.
SSP: Day 1 - Interview, Group Exercise, Computer Based Tests, Maths and English Timed Tests. Day 2 - Sim Ride Only. (747-400) Given a good brief, then taken to sim. Allowed 1 take-off and ILS to get used to the 747. Then the test is a take-off, basic SID Track an NDB and VOR. Asked basic maths question through this stage. Then Climb and descents. Steep turns. Then put somewhere near the airfield. You then have to fly a Hold, then around to do an ILS. All Manual flying. |
